Curriculum-aligned
teaching
Students are often required to demonstrate mastery of state educational standards; thus, tutors need to be able to teach in alignment with specific school curricula.
·
Knowledge of state educational standards:
VTESS tutors demonstrate superior understanding of state educational standards. The content of our tutoring programs are linked to the Australian Curriculum, as used by all Victorian schools.
· Consultation with teachers:
With client’s permission, VTESS tutors can consult classroom teachers about curriculum so they can match their sessions to what's being covered in class.
· Practice test questions
based on standards:
VTESS tutors can provide test taking practice sessions on
helping students demonstrate mastery of education standards.
Focused
sessions
Typically, each tutoring session focuses on one topic or theme in which tutors work with the student on this area to make sure he or she understands all major concepts.
·
Holistic
approach:
Our holistic approach to education extends beyond academic learning into fields of social and emotional wellbeing. VTESS tutors will work with individual students, finding opportunities to incorporate and extend ideas that promote connection, community and wellbeing.
· Practice sessions:
Sessions may consist entirely of practice questions or drills to help consolidate concepts.
· Redirection:
If the student asks off-topic questions or engages in irrelevant discussion, VTESS tutors will redirect his or her attention.
·
Homework
assignments:
VTESS tutors may assign
homework to help consolidate concepts.
Special needs
modifications
Students with special educational needs such as those with ADHD, autism and other disabilities may not be able to grasp information the way it is taught in school.
· Tutor expertise in certain
disabilities:
VTESS tutors present information in alternative ways for students who have certain conditions.
· Distraction-free
environment:
VTESS tuition is individual and the tutoring environment may be modified to minimise distractions for ADHD and other special needs students.
· Shorter assignments,
manipulatives and other modifications:
VTESS tutors may offer
modified assignments or special tools to help special needs students learn
successfully.
Progress
reporting
Student's
progress is recorded and communicated so that the student, parent or carer can
see what is being accomplished.- Learning goals:
Individual learning improvement plans document agreed learning goals. VTESS tutors report progress towards learning goals as the tutoring relationship progresses.
- Student/parent conferences:
VTESS tutor’s meet with parent or carer after each tutoring session to discuss progress.
